STORY
John C. Fremont traveled to Las Vegas Valley on May 3, 1844 , while she was still part of Mexico . [4] He was a leader of a group of scientists, scouts and observers from the United States Army Corps of Engineers . On May 10th of 1855 , following annexation by the United States , Brigham Young had assigned 30 missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led by William Bringhurst to the area to convert the population indigenous to the Paiutes Mormonism . The fort was built near the current center of the city , serving as a stopover for travelers along the "Mormon Corridor" between Salt Lake City and briefly thriving colony of saints at San Bernardino , California . However, Mormons abandoned Las Vegas in 1857 . Las Vegas was established as a railroad town on May 15th of 1905 , when 110 acres (44.5 hectares), owned by Railroad San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Senator William A.Clark of Montana , were auctioned off in what is now downtown Las Vegas. Las Vegas was part of Lincoln County until 1909 when it became part of the newly established Clark County . The Church Catholic of St. Joan of Arc , the streets next 4th and Bridger in downtown was founded in 1910 . Las Vegas became an incorporated city on March 16 of 1911 .

Las Vegas started as a stopover on the trails of the pioneers in March to the West , and became a popular railroad town in early 1900 . With the development of the railroads , Las Vegas went through a period of decline, but the completion of the Hoover Dam in the vicinity, in 1935 , resulted in the growth of population and tourism . The dam, located 50 km southeast of the city, formed Lake Mead . Today, tours are offered for parts lesser known of the dam. The game was legalized in 1931 led to the rise of casino-hotels in the city which has international fame. The initial success of the casinos in the city is clearly related to organized crime . Most of the first large casinos were managed or financed by figures mafia as Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel , Meyer Lansky and other mobsters at the time. [5] In the late 1960s , with the arrival of billionaire Howard Hughes , who bought many casinos, hotels and stations, television in the city, legitimate corporations began to purchase casino-hotels, and the mob was wiped out by the federal government over the next several years. The constant flow of U.S. dollars from tourists in hotels and casinos was also enhanced by a new source of capital. This capital came with the creation of the Nellis Base Area . The flow of military personnel and the creation of direct jobs in the casinos helped start a real estate boom that still continues today.
In 2006, Macao , in China , surpassed Las Vegas as the main pole of games. But anyway Las Vegas remains one of the main worldwide destinations for entertainment. [6] [7]
