John C. Las Vegas was part of Lincoln County until 1909 when it became part of the newly established Clark County . The Church Catholic of St. Joan of Arc , the streets next 4th and Bridger in downtown was founded in 1910 . Las Vegas became an incorporated city on March 16 of 1911 .

The game was legalized in the city on March 19 of 1931 . On December 26th of 1946 , Bugsy Siegel opened the infamous Flamingo Hotel in Paradise, about what would become the Las Vegas Strip . Las Vegas started as a stopover on the trails of the pioneers in March to the West , and became a popular railroad town in early 1900 . Unlike other American cities of the same size, Las Vegas has no major league sports teams in the country.
