On Las Vegas Boulevard , better known as the Strip , casinos are the most impressive in the world like the Bellagio , Caesars Palace , Excalibur , Luxor , Mandalay Bay , MGM Grand , Monte Carlo , New York, New York , Paris , Stratosphere , The Venetian , Treasure Island , among many others.

LAS VEGAS WAS NAMED BY SPANIARDS IN THE GROUP OF ANTONIO ARMIJO  , WHO USED THE WATER IN THE AREA DURING THE JOURNEY STARTED IN TEXAS AND DRIVEN NORTH AND WEST ALONG THE OLD TRAIL ESPANOLA (OLD SPANISH TRAIL). IN 1800 , THE AREAS OF LAS VEGAS VALLEYCONTAINED ARTESIAN WELLS THAT SUPPORTED EXTENSIVE GREEN AREAS OR MEADOWS (VEGAS IN SPANISH ), HENCE THE NAME LAS VEGAS.
John C. Fremont traveled to Las Vegas Valley on May 3, 1844 , while she was still part of Mexico .  He was a leader of a group of scientists, scouts and observers from the United States Army Corps of Engineers . On May 10th of 1855 , following annexation by the United States , Brigham Young had assigned 30 missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led by William Bringhurst to the area to convert the population indigenous to the Paiutes Mormonism . The fort was built near the current center of the city , serving as a stopover for travelers along the "Mormon Corridor" between Salt Lake City and briefly thriving colony of saints at San Bernardino , California . However, Mormons abandoned Las Vegas in 1857 . Las Vegas was established as a railroad town on May 15th of 1905 , when 110 acres (44.5 hectares), owned by Railroad San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Senator William A.Clark of Montana , were auctioned off in what is now downtown Las Vegas. Las Vegas was part of Lincoln County until 1909 when it became part of the newly established Clark County . The Church Catholic of St. Joan of Arc , the streets next 4th and Bridger in downtown was founded in 1910 . Las Vegas became an incorporated city on March 16 of 1911 .
The game was legalized in the city on March 19 of 1931 . On December 26th of 1946 , Bugsy Siegel opened the infamous Flamingo Hotel in Paradise, about what would become the Las Vegas Strip . The age of megaresorts casinos in Clark County began on November 22 of 1989 , with the opening of The Mirage .
Las Vegas started as a stopover on the trails of the pioneers in March to the West , and became a popular railroad town in early 1900 . With the development of the railroads , Las Vegas went through a period of decline, but the completion of the Hoover Dam in the vicinity, in 1935 , resulted in the growth of population and tourism . The dam, located 50 km southeast of the city, formed Lake Mead . Today, tours are offered for parts lesser known of the dam. The game was legalized in 1931 led to the rise of casino-hotels in the city which has international fame. The initial success of the casinos in the city is clearly related to organized crime . Most of the first large casinos were managed or financed by figures mafia as Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel , Meyer Lansky and other mobsters at the time.  In the late 1960s , with the arrival of billionaire Howard Hughes , who bought many casinos, hotels and stations, television in the city, legitimate corporations began to purchase casino-hotels, and the mob was wiped out by the federal government over the next several years. The constant flow of U.S. dollars from tourists in hotels and casinos was also enhanced by a new source of capital. This capital came with the creation of the Nellis Base Area . The flow of military personnel and the creation of direct jobs in the casinos helped start a real estate boom that still continues today.
In 2006, Macao , in China , surpassed Las Vegas as the main pole of games. But anyway Las Vegas remains one of the main worldwide destinations for entertainment.

Las Vegas has a semi-arid climate , registering less than 100 mm of precipitation per year. Constant population growth means that the housing construction industry is vitally important. In 2000 more than 21,000 new homes and 26,000 resale homes were purchased. In early 2005 there were 20 residential development projects of more than 300 acres (120 ha) each course.
Every year in January, the international fair is held electronics ( International Consumer Electronic Show - CES), the largest electronics fair in the world. The fair attracts Las Vegas 150 thousand professionals and journalists being forbidden to the general public.

The fame of Las Vegas made the city was the setting for several films like 007: Diamonds Are Forever , Assault in Las Vegas, The Three Thousand Miles of Hell Eleven Men and a Secret , Miss Congeniality 2 , Looney Tunes - Back to Action , Honey, I Blew Up the Kid , Percy Jackson , 21 (blackjack) (br:Breaking Banking / pt: Smokin 'Aces ), The Hangover (br: If Hangover / pt: The Hangover ), and appearances in movies like Bolt from Disney . Just like in the movies, also was the scene of television shows like CSI and Las Vegas . The rock band The Killers , The Cab , Panic! at the Disco and Escape the Fate are from this city.

Unlike other American cities of the same size, Las Vegas has no major league sports teams in the country. The main reasons for this peculiarity is the fear of the influence of bets on sporting events that are legalized in Las Vegas and the possible competition for audiences with the casinos. Las Vegas currently has two minor sports teams: The Las Vegas 51s that are part of the Pacific Coast League in basketball and the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL in hockey .
The city also hosts short-term events such as the NBA All-Star Game (which occurred in the city in 2007 ), races of NASCAR , and fights boxing and mixed martial arts , which typically bring in millions to the city.
